Podium Ambition: Through the Lens

Christian Braybrooke’s Gallery of a weekend with the team

Shooting a new team is always a fresh view for a photographer. New riders, new colours to see, new personalities to work with.  Christian Braybrooke takes us through a selection of images from his week with the British team, a powerhouse of talent in and beyond the UK. Their marquee rider, Sarah Storey has won 11 gold medals in the Paralymics, and is a 21 time world champion.  Talk about talent…

I’ve never photographed a women’s team before, so I went in to this job not knowing what to expect.  I did however know a couple of riders from my days racing as a Junior. I think this is always important when working within a team, as it allows the riders to feel more comfortable and the images end up looking more natural.

The 2 days I was with podium ambition centred around a British Cycling “Breeze ride”, in which the team were riding with 60 other women from the local area.

Day 1 was made up of shots for the website an various team sponsors.

Day 2 was more fun and we got out in the Lincolnshire lanes, for some less formal on bike shots.

Hard to believe it had been raining that morning.

Overall I had an amazing weekend working with the team, it was a great experience. The riders were the utmost professionals and added their own creativity to the shots, I reckon the boys could use a lesson on media training from them! There is a real passion and drive, that regardless of budget, support, size of the team, shines through (even through British clouds)
