La Primavera was truly the race of the start of Spring… leaving behind weather “polemicas” at Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico, the race usually made epic by snow, rain, bus transfers mid race was uncharacteristically calm, with only a short landslide diversion as possible catastrophe. Yet clear skies don’t change the fact it is one of the hardest races of the year. And without the factor of weather, the riders take more chances, the crashes add up, and 300k is 300k. The whirlwind of a one day race is immense: the start line ramp up to the last bus pulling away from the finish: 10 hours. And a flight home that night with many a weary rider on board.
